Our brand new development coming to site in 2023 has won the ‘Science Cities – healthcare and science campuses’ award at the ‘Future Cities Forum Winter Awards 2022’. This is a great start for our Alder Hey development located at Springfield Park, Liverpool. Step Places, BDP and the NHS have worked together to create a place that is bespoke to the context of Alder Hey Hospital, responding to the needs of the healthcare service and the wider community, and help to break down traditional barriers between hospitals and adjacent communities.
Springfield Gardens will be a contemporary mixed-use development bringing 182 new homes to create a truly diverse community. High quality housing is being designed to include a mix of typologies such as accommodation for NHS staff, private housing, retirement apartments and specialist living for young people with autism. It also includes retail spaces, a gym, crèche and a new science research building for the Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.
Angela Barnicle, Chief Officer, Asset Management & Regeneration, Leeds City Council:
‘You have to work very hard at this site (at Alder Hey) but it is a real opportunity to create substantial change in a district.’
Jennifer Daothong, Executive Director for Housing, Regeneration & Public Realm, Lewisham Council
‘The stand-out is Alder Hey. It’s using the opportunity of a health and innovation clustering to address tricky end-uses that have to be pulled together carefully.’
