Wigan Pier
The regeneration of a culturally iconic destination to provide housing, office, retail and leisure facilities.
The regeneration of this area is currently in progress, and will see the renovation of the current warehouse buildings to provide 55,000 sq ft office space, new commercial spaces for food and beverage outlets, as well as leisure, retail and community facilities, which aims to put this area back on the map as one of the premier cultural destinations in the North.
Step Places have been chosen as the preferred development partners for the regeneration of the famous Wigan Pier buildings, working in conjunction with Wigan Council and the Canal & River Trust to create a destination based offer labelled “The Pier Quarter”. Our proposals will see this iconic destination rejuvenated to become a cultural and culinary focal point, not only for Wigan town centre but nationally.
This important heritage site at the heart of Wigan’s history sits a short distance from the town and its transport links.
The area was formally at the end of a narrow gauge tram line which was used to transport coal to the surrounding warehouses. Later the area became famous due to the Wigan Pier nightclub, situated near to the banks of the canal.
